Internship Program

The Arts Internship Program is a unique learning and work opportunity where interns are matched with organizations that are relevant to their career aspirations and education. Students work until each college or institution requires hours of work and the duration of the course, pay regular tuition fees, and receive credit-hours toward their degree.

Internships are one-time hands-on work or service experiences:

Relationship to the student intern’s major or career goal and employers must provide ongoing professional development and mentorship, Involves working in a professional setting,  Supervised and trained by practicing art or design professionals in the field, Guided by predetermined learning outcomes, such as course objectives, the student’s written goals, and the employer’s stated expectations, which the intern engages in and reflects upon throughout the experience.  An internship is designed to provide the student with experience in a career setting; some are paid, and some are voluntary, unpaid activities.

The internship is a mutual agreement where students exchange for work in exchange for on-the-job training and work experience. As such, the workplace mentor should provide an experience/opportunity for artistic learning or professional design. If a student is already employed in an art or design-related job, the department cannot grant internship credit to continue that same activity.
